Need Someone to Talk With?

Our support groups are non-threatening and non-judgmental. We offer complete confidentiality and a safe place to come and talk, cry or just listen. There is no charge for this safe place to come and share your experiences and concerns.

For more information on specific support group times and locations, call the GAP office at (818) 264-0880 or email info@grandparentsasparents.org. Groups sometimes shift from the location due to a variety of reasons - It is always best to confirm with the facilitator if you have not attended before.

GAP holds weekly support groups in the following areas

Start Your Own Support Group

Grandparents As Parents, a Survival Guide for Raising a Second Family, has a whole chapter devoted to how you could start a group. The book is powerfully helpful as a tool, whether you are a relative caregiver or someone working with families. To start a group, it is a matter of letting others know you are available and that by coming together you are able to offer strength to each other. A checklist you might consider should include:
  • Have you gotten the word out? Publicized your group?
  • Where will you meet?
  • How often will you meet?
  • Will you have child care?
  • Will you charge for the group?
  • Who will facilitate the group?
  • Will you provide refreshments?
  • Do you have a list of topics to discuss?
